III Edition of the Cabimer Awards 2025

On October 29, 2025, the CABIMER Auditorium (Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine) hosted the III Edition of the CABIMER Awards, a day dedicated to recognizing scientific excellence and the emerging talent of young researchers in the field of molecular biology applied to biomedicine.

A Day to Promote Science with Impact

The event featured speeches by José Carlos Reyes, Director of CABIMER, and Ángel Alcalde, Founder of Biomol, who emphasized the commitment of these awards to supporting research with real societal impact.
The awards ceremony, conducted by Pablo Huertas, President of the evaluation committee, recognized the following:

  • Ex aequo Award: Ana Amiama Roig, for the article ‘A Rfa1-MN–based system reveals new factors involved in the rescue of broken replication forks’
  • Ex aequo Award: Nieves Lara Ureña, for the article ‘SARS-CoV-2 E protein interacts with BRD2 and BRD4 domains and alters transcription in a different way than BET inhibition’
  • First Prize: María José Peña Gómez, for the article ‘HMCES corrupts replication fork stability during base excision repair in homologous recombination-deficient cells’

Additionally, we had the opportunity to enjoy presentations of the award-winning works, in a brief format focusing on the methodology, impact, and potential applications of their results.

The award ceremony also featured participation from Margarita Paneque Sosa, Institutional Delegate of the CSIC in Andalusia; Antonia Jiménez Rodríguez, Vice-Rector for Research, Transfer, and Doctoral Programs at Pablo de Olavide University; and Jesús Cintas, Physicist and Director of the Secretariat for Centers, Institutes, and General Research Services at the University of Seville.
The closing remarks were delivered by Loreto del Valle Cebada, Director General of Research Planning at the Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation, and Áurea Morillo García, Secretary General for Public Health and R&D in Health at the Ministry of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies. They highlighted CABIMER as a leading research center and expressed full institutional support for the advancement of research in Andalusia.

CABIMER is a pioneering multidisciplinary research space in biomedicine in Spain, integrating both basic and applied research with the goal of translating scientific results into direct improvements in public health and the quality of life of citizens. It is supported by the Government of Andalusia through the Ministries of Health and Consumer Affairs and of Universities, Research and Innovation, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the University of Seville, and Pablo de Olavide University.
