Biomol and Fundación Instituto Biomol participate in the XX SEFIN Congress 2026
Biomol took part as a sponsor in the XX SEFIN Congress 2026. This scientific meeting focused on biological nitrogen fixation and beneficial interactions between plants and microorganisms. In addition, Fundación Instituto Biomol awarded three grants to support the attendance of young researchers.
Last May, the XX SEFIN Congress 2026 was held in Cádiz. The event brought together researchers, students and professionals involved in biological nitrogen fixation, microbiology, biotechnology and agricultural research.
The congress gathered a specialised scientific community focused on beneficial relationships between plants and microorganisms. Moreover, it provided a valuable space to share knowledge, present new research lines and create connections between research groups.
For our team, taking part in this edition was a valuable opportunity. It allowed us to stay close to professionals working in a field with a direct impact on sustainability, plant improvement and more efficient agricultural systems.
Three grants to support young researchers
One of the most special aspects of this edition was the initiative promoted by Fundación Instituto Biomol, which awarded three grants to facilitate the attendance of young researchers at the congress.
The recipients of these grants were:
- Sara Pérez González, from the Estación Experimental del Zaidín, EEZ-CSIC, Granada.
- Kusum Niraula, from the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier, ITQB NOVA, Oeiras, Portugal.
- Juan Andrés Collantes García, from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM.
Through this initiative, the Foundation strengthens an essential part of its mission: supporting training, creating opportunities and contributing to the development of scientific profiles at key stages of their careers.
Beyond facilitating attendance at the event, this type of initiative allows young researchers to access spaces where scientific advances are shared, professional connections are created and new collaboration opportunities can emerge. It is a valuable opportunity to learn, exchange experiences and feel part of an active scientific community.

A space to listen, share and give visibility to science
During the congress, we had the opportunity to speak with attendees, researchers and members of the organising committee. It was especially enriching to learn first-hand about their projects, research lines and the challenges they face in their daily work.
Behind everyday laboratory routines, there are often projects with significant scientific and social value that do not always receive the visibility they deserve.
This is why meetings such as the SEFIN Congress are so important: they allow experiences to be shared, give a voice to those driving research forward and recognise the effort behind each scientific advance.
The SEFIN Congress 2026 was also a space to highlight the importance of scientific collaboration. Sharing knowledge, generating conversation and connecting with other professionals remain essential for science to move forward.
Close to the research community
Participating in scientific congresses means more than supporting an event. It also means listening, learning and better understanding the real needs of those working in laboratories, universities and research centres.
In this edition, direct contact with attendees allowed us to learn more about projects related to biological nitrogen fixation, a field of great relevance for sustainability, biotechnology and agricultural research.
These spaces help us continue building a close relationship with the scientific community and reinforce our commitment to initiatives that promote training, collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Acknowledgements to the organising committee
We would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of the congress for making possible such a valuable meeting to share knowledge, create connections and highlight the work of the scientific community.
In particular, we would like to express our gratitude to Irene Jiménez Guerrero, Francisco de Asís Pérez and José María Vinardell González, with whom we had the pleasure of working throughout the development of the congress.
We would also like to recognise the participation of all attendees who shared their projects, concerns and experiences with us. Their daily work is the true driving force behind meetings such as this one.
Continuing to promote science, training and opportunities
Our participation in the XX SEFIN Congress 2026 reinforces our commitment to research, scientific training and the visibility of research talent.
From Biomol and Fundación Instituto Biomol, we will continue to support initiatives that create opportunities, promote science and contribute to the development of young researchers.
